Lesson-game “Happy Chance” for the theme “The Royal family”- the 10th form

Lesson-game “Happy Chance” for the theme “The Royal family”- the 10th form

It consists of five games:
І. Warm-up.
ІІ. Find out the hero.
ІІІ. Queen’s likes and dislikes.
ІҮ. Crossword.
Ү. The Queen’s family tree.

І. The first game. The aim of the game is to develop the students’ intellectual speech activity. Every team will receive for three questions. This will take about 30 seconds for thinking. For every right answer one can receive only one card. Answer the questions:
1. Who is the head of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland? (Queen Elizabeth II)
2. When did she ascend to the throne? (She ascended to the throne after the father’s death in 1952 and was crowned in Westminster Abbey in June 1953)
3. Where was Princess Elizabeth educated? (She was educated at home with Princess Margaret, her younger sister. She studied constitutional history, law, art, music, learned to ride)
4. What do you know about the Queen’s husband? (His full name is His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. They got married in 1947 in Westminster Abbey)
5. How many children have the Royal Couple? (They have four children: Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward)
6. Who is the Queen’s heir to the throne? (Prince Charles)
ІІ. The second game. The aim of the game is to control the students’ habits of understanding. The teams will listen to the mini-texts and will define the chief characters. This will take about 30 seconds for thinking and for every right answer one can receive one card.

Text 4. He is one of the members of the Royal Family. He was born in 1948. He is interested in many things: architecture, environment, history, alternative medicine, and farming. His favourite sport is polo. He is well-known as a keen promoter of British interests. He has two children. His name is … . (Charles, the Prince of Wales)
Text 5. He is one of the members of the Royal Family. He is very good at sport. In 1980 he joined the Royal Navy and became a “sea King” helicopter pilot. He is interested in photography. He speaks French and German. In 1986 he married V3ss Sarah Ferguson and has two daughters. He is … . (Prince Andrew, the Duke of York)
Text 6. She is one of the members of the Royal family. She is one of the world’s richest women. Three quarters or more of her working life is spent in an office reading and signing state papers. She never gives interviewers. She likes to spend time with her grandchildren, watch horse-racing, go for a walk and watch TV. Her title in the UK is: “Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith”. ІІІ. The third game – the Queen’s likes and dislikes. The aim of the game is to develop the students’ habits of using their acquisitive knowledge. Every team will receive “The magic box” with the papers in which the Queen’s likes and dislikes were written. During three minutes one team must find and attach the Queen’s tastes and the second one the Queen’s dislikes. For right execution of the task the team can receive for three cards.

IV. The Fourth game. Crossword. The aim of the game is to develop their logical thinking. The students must find nine things which the Queen can take with her to the traveling. The interpretations of these words are on the poster.
This will take about 3 minutes for thinking and finding of these words.
 An apparatus used to make photographs. ↓
 A cushion (диванная подушка) for the head, especially in bed. ↓
 Dried leaves of a plant, cultivated in China, India. →
 A metal vessel with a spout (струя) and a handle for boiling. ↓
 A sweet crystalline vegetable substance. →
 A compound of alkali (щелочь) and oil used in washing. ↓
 Objects of precious metal often worn for personal adornment. →
 A device for telling time which you wear on your wrist. ↓
 Two pieces of special glass surrounded by plastic, metal etc. which you wear in front of your eyes in order to see better. →

V. The fifth game. The aim of the game is to improve the students’ speech habits. There is a “Family Tree” on the poster with the names and ages of the members of the Queens’ family. There are the portraits of the members under the tree. The task is to complete “The British Royal Family Tree” with the portraits of the members of the Queen’s family.
